MVQ101 - Position sensor for valve actuators - SVS BASIC IO-LINK

The IFM MVQ101 is a smart valve position sensor designed for continuous position feedback on rotary valve actuators. It uses IO-Link communication and provides three selectable normally open or normally closed digital outputs. The sensor detects valve position across a 360° range with 0.1° resolution and 0.1° repeatability. It operates from 10 to 30 V DC and is rated IP65/IP67 for industrial environments. The device supports diagnostics such as seal monitoring, position counting and valve movement-time measurement.

Continuous Valve Position Feedback

The MVQ101 provides continuous feedback of the rotary valve position. Its detection range covers 360°, allowing it to monitor the complete actuator movement. The sensor provides 0.1° resolution and 0.1° repeatability. Three digital outputs can be configured as normally open or normally closed. This provides flexible feedback for valve control and monitoring systems.

IO-Link Communication

The MVQ101 communicates through IO-Link revision 1.1 using COM2 at 38.4 kbit/s. IO-Link provides parameterisation, diagnostics and process data communication through the sensor interface. The device supports SIO mode and requires an IO-Link master with a Class A port. Parameterisation can be performed using compatible IFM tools such as LR DEVICE. This allows the sensor to be integrated into modern digital automation architectures.

Diagnostic and Maintenance Functions

The MVQ101 provides diagnostic capabilities beyond basic valve position switching. Its IO-Link communication can provide information related to changes in valve closing and opening behaviour. Seal monitoring can indicate changes associated with deposits or seal wear. Valve positions can also be counted and movement times measured. These functions support condition-based maintenance and help reduce unexpected process downtime.

Mechanical and Environmental Design

The MVQ101 is designed for rotary valve actuators using an 80 × 20 mm VDI/VDE 3845 mounting interface. It uses a PA housing with a stainless-steel connector. The operating temperature range is -25 to 70°C. Reverse-polarity and short-circuit protection are included. IP65/IP67 protection supports installation in industrial valve environments.

Continuous Position Monitoring

The MVQ101 provides continuous information about valve position rather than only a basic open or closed indication. Its 360° detection range allows monitoring throughout the actuator movement. The 0.1° resolution provides detailed position information. Three configurable outputs provide flexible switching functions. This makes the sensor suitable for advanced valve feedback applications.

Diagnostic Maintenance

IO-Link enables the MVQ101 to communicate additional diagnostic information to the automation system. Changes in valve movement times can indicate deposits, wear or other mechanical changes. Seal monitoring can identify changes in the closed position. Position counting and movement-time measurement support maintenance planning. This helps move valve maintenance from reactive servicing toward condition-based maintenance.

Digital Integration

The IO-Link interface allows parameterisation and process-data communication through a compatible master. The sensor supports IO-Link revision 1.1 and SIO mode. Its Smart Sensor profile provides device identification, diagnostics and process-data functions. The M12 connection simplifies integration into industrial wiring systems. This makes the MVQ101 suitable for digitally connected valve automation architectures.
