The IFM KG5305 is a quasi-flush capacitive sensor designed for position detection and level monitoring. It provides an adjustable sensing range of 0.5–9 mm with an 8 mm factory setting. The KG5305 provides a sensing range from 0.5 to 9 mm. The sensing range is adjustable, with an 8 mm factory setting and a real sensing range of 8 mm ±10%. Its quasi-flush mounting arrangement allows installation in suitable machine structures. Hysteresis is specified between 1 and 15% of the real sensing range. Switch-point drift is specified from -10 to +10% of Sr.
The KG5305 supports IO-Link revision 1.1 using COM2 communication at 38.4 kBaud. IO-Link allows remote parameterisation and switching-point adjustment. The interface also provides functions such as operating-hours counting and configurable switching logic. PNP/NPN configuration can be parameterised through IO-Link. This makes the sensor suitable for digitally connected automation systems.
The sensor has an M18 × 1 threaded housing with a 92.5 mm overall length. PBT, PC and POM are used for the housing components. A 2 m PUR cable provides a three-wire electrical connection. IP65, IP67 and IP69K protection support harsh industrial environments. Two lock nuts are supplied for installation.

The KG5305 operates from 10–30 V DC with current consumption below 22 mA. Its PNP output supports a permanent current of 200 mA. The maximum switching-output voltage drop is 2.5 V. Switching frequency is 30 Hz. Reverse-polarity, short-circuit and overload protection are provided.
The KG5305 operates at ambient temperatures from -25 to 80 °C. The supported medium temperature range extends from -25 to 110 °C. IP65, IP67 and IP69K protection provide strong resistance to dust, water and washdown conditions. The sensor is tested for vibration and shock according to DIN EN 60947-5-2.
