IFM E21318 is a fibre optic diffuse reflection sensor designed for compact industrial sensing applications. It uses an angled M4 sensing head for flexible mechanical installation. The sensor is compatible with OBF, OCF High Power and OO50 fibre-optic amplifiers. It provides a fibre-optic range of up to 960 mm when used with an OCF High Power amplifier. E21318 detects objects using the diffuse reflection sensing principle. Optical energy is transmitted and reflected from the target before being evaluated by the connected fibre-optic amplifier. The sensor supports OBF, OCF and OO50 amplifier types. Its available ranges are 70 mm with OBF, 960 mm with OCF High Power and 150 mm with OO50. This makes it suitable for a wide range of industrial presence-detection tasks.
The sensor incorporates an angled sensing head with an M4 thread and a 15.5 mm head length. The threaded head provides a secure mounting point for integration into machinery. The angled configuration allows the sensing point to be positioned where direct access is restricted. This makes it suitable for compact machine assemblies and confined installation areas. The M4 mounting arrangement offers a practical balance between compact size and mechanical stability.
The 2 m fibre assembly uses PMMA fibre, a stainless-steel 303 / 1.4305 fibre head and PE sheath. The minimum bending radius is 2 mm, allowing flexible routing through machine structures. The sensor weighs approximately 44 g and operates between -40 and 70°C. Two M4 hexagon nuts and two tooth lock washers are supplied. The E20600 fibre optic cutter can be used as an optional accessory.
