The IFM LR7020 is a guided wave radar level sensor designed for continuous level measurement in tanks and containers. It uses a probe-based radar measurement principle for reliable detection of liquids and oil-based media. The probe can be selected in lengths from 100 to 2000 mm to suit different tank heights. Two parameterisable PNP/NPN switching outputs provide flexible control functions. IO-Link communication enables digital configuration, measurement values, identification, and diagnostics.
Explore performance details, construction highlights, applications, and technical information in one clear overview.
The LR7020 measures liquid level directly along the guided probe. Its active measuring range is defined according to the installed probe length. The measurement principle is largely independent of temperature influences. A resolution of 1 mm provides detailed level information. This makes the sensor suitable for continuous tank-level monitoring.
The LR7020 provides two digital switching outputs. Both outputs can be configured as normally open or normally closed. The PNP/NPN design provides flexible connection to industrial controllers. Each output can handle up to 200 mA. Short-circuit and overload protection improve electrical reliability.
IO-Link provides digital access to measured values and sensor parameters. The sensor supports IO-Link revision 1.1 and COM2 communication at 38.4 kBaud. Smart Sensor and identification/diagnostic profiles are supported. The sensor can also operate in conventional SIO mode. This allows easy integration into modern automation systems.

The guided wave radar principle provides continuous level information instead of simple point detection. The probe length can be adapted to different vessel heights. Defined inactive zones help maintain reliable measurement near the probe ends. The 1 mm resolution provides useful measurement detail. This makes LR7020 suitable for automated tank-level control.
The LR7020 combines measurement with two configurable switching outputs. IO-Link provides additional digital access to process and diagnostic information. The PNP/NPN output arrangement supports different control architectures. Electrical protection functions help protect the output stage. This provides a practical level-monitoring solution for industrial automation.
