Product Overview

The 2-stage Speed Controller is the industry’s first device to deliver shock absorption performance equivalent to that of a cylinder equipped with a shock absorber. Patented under No. 5578502, this controller enables precise control over motion dynamics by replicating the damping effect of traditional shock absorbers—without requiring additional mechanical components. This makes it ideal for applications where smooth, controlled movement and reduced impact are critical, such as in automated material handling or precision positioning systems.

Construction and Materials

The main structural components are manufactured from PBT (polybutylene terephthalate), a standard resin known for its durability and performance in general environmental conditions. Sealing elements utilize either NBR (nitrile butadiene rubber) or HNBR (hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber). The NBR seals offer reliable sealing properties, though they have limited resistance to ozone exposure. HNBR seals provide enhanced ozone resistance through hydrogen addition, making them suitable for low-concentration ozone environments where long-term durability is essential.

Configuration and Connections

The controller features a dual-stage exhaust flow adjustment system. The first stage manages speed control (EX1), while the second stage provides cushioning action (EX2) to simulate shock absorption. Additionally, the start timing of the shock absorber (TIM) can be independently set, allowing for fine-tuned control over when and how the damping effect begins during motion. For example, shock impact can be reduced to 1/9th of original levels while maintaining the same cycle time.

Operating Characteristics

The controller operates with air as the fluid medium within a pressure range of 0.2 to 1.0 MPa. It is designed for use in ambient temperatures between 0°C and 60°C, with no risk of freezing under normal operating conditions. The system is engineered to maintain consistent performance across these ranges without degradation or failure.

Sizes and Options

Available in a range of metric sizes: φ4 mm, φ6 mm, φ8 mm, and φ10 mm, as well as inch equivalents: φ5/32

Installation and Integration

The 2-stage Speed Controller is designed for direct integration into pneumatic systems. It features standard mounting interfaces compatible with cylinder-style fittings, enabling straightforward installation in existing pneumatic circuits. The controller can be mounted directly on the actuator or integrated into a control system where precise speed and shock absorption are required.
