The IFM RO3100 is an incremental encoder with a hollow shaft designed for accurate rotary position and speed measurement. It uses a magnetic detection principle and supports configurable resolution from 1 to 10,000 pulses. The encoder operates from 4.75 to 30 V DC and provides HTL/TTL output capability. Its 12 mm hollow shaft and M12 connection support compact machine integration. IO-Link communication enables convenient parameterisation and diagnostic functions.
Explore performance details, construction highlights, applications, and technical information in one clear overview.
The RO3100 generates a defined pulse sequence for reliable rotational-speed detection. Its adjustable resolution allows the encoder to match different machine-control requirements. The 90° phase difference between A and B signals enables direction detection. Magnetic sensing provides good resistance to shock and vibration. The encoder is suitable for precise position and linear measurement applications.
The encoder features a 12 mm hollow shaft open on one side. This allows direct installation onto a compatible rotating shaft. The maximum mechanical speed is 12,000 rpm. The shaft permits up to 0.5 mm axial misalignment. A fixing flange with a 58.5 mm diameter supports secure machine installation.
IO-Link provides digital access to encoder settings. Resolution, rotation direction, HTL, and TTL functions can be parameterised. The device supports IO-Link 1.1 and COM2 communication at 38.4 kBaud. SIO mode is also supported. The minimum process cycle time is 2.3 ms.

The RO3100 combines incremental feedback with digital parameterisation. Its M12 connection simplifies machine wiring. The hollow-shaft design reduces the need for additional mechanical couplings. The encoder can be integrated with PLC and motion-control systems. Its compact construction supports machine-builder requirements.
The encoder is designed for demanding industrial environments. It operates from -40 to 85°C. Shock resistance is specified at 100 g and vibration resistance at 20 g. The housing and shaft provide different IP protection levels according to the installation area. The documented MTTF is 292 years.
