The UNID UM-N-D family is the company's smart and multifunction quarter-turn actuator range for automated valve control. The series is designed around brushless DC motors and supports both ON-OFF and modulating operation, making it suitable for applications where a valve must be opened, closed or positioned to regulate process flow.
UNID specifies 75% duty-cycle operation for modulating service and 30% duty cycle for on/off service on the detailed smart actuator documentation. The actuator can control valve opening angle for flow regulation, with modulation available through current or voltage signals on applicable configurations. The BLDC motor is intended for frequent operation with reduced heat generation.

The smart family supports battery-type failsafe operation. UNID describes failsafe as moving the valve to a previously specified position when power fails. Backup power provides a related emergency function while allowing the end user to operate the valve to the desired position after power loss rather than using only a factory preset position.
