The IFM SM9000 is a high-capacity magnetic-inductive flow meter designed for conductive liquids in industrial applications. It provides a measuring range of 5…300 l/min through a G2 DN50 process connection. The sensor combines switching, analogue, pulse, frequency, and IO-Link communication options. Integrated totaliser and empty-pipe detection functions provide additional process-monitoring capability. Its 16 bar pressure rating and robust construction make it suitable for demanding water-based flow applications.
Explore performance details, construction highlights, applications, and technical information in one clear overview.
The SM9000 measures conductive liquids from 5 to 300 l/min. Its large G2 process connection is suitable for higher-volume pipe installations. Magnetic-inductive measurement eliminates mechanical moving parts from the flow path. The sensor can measure water and hydrous media with conductivity of at least 20 µS/cm. This makes it suitable for industrial circulation and process-water systems.
The SM9000 provides two digital outputs and one analogue output. Output functions include switching, pulse, frequency, analogue, and IO-Link communication. A totaliser function allows monitoring of accumulated flow quantity. Empty-pipe detection provides an additional process-protection function. These capabilities allow the device to serve as both a flow meter and process-monitoring unit.
The integrated display provides local process information and configuration access. Flow values, temperature values, and totalised quantities can be monitored directly. IO-Link provides digital parameterisation and process communication. The sensor also provides scalable analogue signals. This supports both traditional control systems and modern digital automation networks.

The SM9000 provides a specified flow accuracy of ±(0.8% measured value + 0.5% of measuring-end value) under the stated conditions. Its measuring dynamics are 1:60. The low-flow cut-off can be configured below 15 l/min. A 0.5 l/min flow resolution is provided. These features support both continuous measurement and threshold-based process control.
Install the SM9000 using the G2 DN50 process connection and appropriate adapter arrangement. Ensure that the measured medium satisfies the conductivity and viscosity requirements. Maintain suitable pipe conditions to minimise measurement disturbances. Check the sensor connection and process seals during maintenance. Use IO-Link or the local controls to verify configuration after installation.
