The IFM CR3131 is a CANwireless module designed for wireless CAN communication using an external antenna. It provides CAN-to-Wi-Fi and CAN-to-Bluetooth communication for mobile machines. The external antenna connection allows improved wireless range compared with the integrated-antenna version. Wi-Fi supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz operation, while Bluetooth Classic provides an additional wireless interface. The device is suitable for remote diagnostics, machine maintenance and wireless CAN bridging.
Explore performance details, construction highlights, applications, and technical information in one clear overview.
The CR3131 is designed for applications where an external antenna is preferred. The RP-SMA antenna connection allows the antenna to be positioned according to the machine installation. This can be useful where the controller is installed inside an enclosure or in an area with limited wireless exposure. The external antenna configuration provides a specified Wi-Fi range of up to 200 m. This makes the module suitable for larger mobile machines and extended service areas.
The CR3131 supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks. It can operate as a Wi-Fi bridge or as an infrastructure/mini-access-point interface. Bluetooth Classic 2.1 + EDR is supported through the Serial Port Profile. CAN data can be transmitted through both wireless technologies. The module supports CANopen, CAN Layer 2 and J1939 communication. This provides flexibility for different mobile-machine communication systems.
The CR3131 can provide wireless access to the machine CAN network for service and diagnostics. CODESYS and maintenance tools can communicate with the machine without requiring a physical CAN connection. CAN-to-CAN bridging can also be established between compatible CANwireless devices. Data filtering can reduce unnecessary wireless traffic. The module is therefore useful for machine commissioning, debugging and maintenance.
