IFM Instrumentation Flow

Control monitor for flow sensors SR5900

The IFM SR5900 is a control monitor designed to evaluate compatible IFM flow sensors in industrial piping systems. It provides reliable monitoring of liquids and gases through a connected flow sensor. The unit operates from 19…36 V DC and provides a PNP switching output rated up to 250 mA. Switch-point adjustment is performed using an integrated pushbutton. Its LED bar graph provides visual indication of flow and switching status.

Flow Sensor Evaluation

The SR5900 works as an evaluation unit for compatible IFM flow probes. It processes the signal from the connected flow sensor and provides a switching output to the control system. This allows flow monitoring to be separated from the actual sensing element. The design supports sensors with large immersion depths and different wetted materials. It is suitable for applications requiring central flow evaluation.

Easy Setup

The integrated pushbutton allows convenient adjustment of the flow switching point. An LED bar graph provides visual indication of flow and the configured switch point. A separate status indication identifies the switching condition. Wire-break indication is also provided. These features simplify commissioning and troubleshooting.

Robust Industrial Design

The SR5900 operates from 19…36 V DC and consumes less than 70 mA. It provides IP67 protection when used with the sensor attached. The stainless-steel housing has a cylindrical Ø50 × 83 mm design. An M12 connector is used for electrical connection. Short-circuit and overload protection are included.

Control System Integration

The SR5900 converts the connected flow sensor's condition into a switching signal for the automation controller. Its PNP output can be connected to compatible PLC inputs. Adjustable switching points allow adaptation to the required process condition. The LED indication provides useful local diagnostic information. This makes it practical for machines where reliable flow/no-flow monitoring is required.

Installation & Maintenance

Connect the SR5900 directly to a compatible IFM flow sensor. IFM specifies that the flow sensor must be connected directly and that extension cables should not be used. Mount the control monitor securely and provide suitable environmental protection. Set the switching point during commissioning. Periodically inspect the M12 connection and sensor wiring for damage.
